There hasn’t been a lot of success for Michael Malone in the transfer portal. Marquee star player Caleb Wilson declared for the NBA draft. And to make matters worse, Seth Trimble, one of the best players on the team last season, has decided to enter the transfer portal.
Before this news, Malone was about to get a capable partner in Kim English as his assistant coach. However, English rejected the opportunity to become North Carolina’s assistant coach.
“NEW: North Carolina guard Seth Trimble has entered the NCAA transfer portal with a “Do Not Contact” tag,” insider Pete Nakos reported.
Trimble has no eligibility left. He played four years in college basketball for North Carolina and has opted for a “Do Not Contact” tag. This means that no team can approach him, but he has the decision of choosing his next team. He can approach any team he wants.
Fans react to Seth Trimble entering the transfer portal
Michael Malone has a tough task at hand. He was appointed as the successor to Hubert Davis at the North Carolina Tar Heels. They are in search of a full rebuild after a disappointing end to the season.
Fans online were confused by Trimble’s decision. For some, it didn’t make sense, while others wanted to see Seth Trimble move on from college basketball.
“No eligibility left but still do not contact tag? transfer portal never fails to confuse me lmao,” one fan expressed.
“For you dummy’s he has to go into the portal to be eligible if the NCAA passes the 5th year of eligibility. The only school he’s going to is UNC!!!” one fan exclaimed.
“Do Not Contact = he knows UNC is home. If the NCAA gives him that extra year, he’s starting again and carrying this program while the transfers quit after one bad game. Loyal ones eat last,” one fan speculated.
“Time to get a job buddy. The real world is waiting for you,” one fan called Trimble out.
“If he has no Elgibility! Heck nobody will contact him anyway smh,” another said.
“Do not contact with no eligibility left? dudes def banking on that 5th year rule lol,” another commented.
