After an impressive freshman season, Houston Cougars’ Kingston Flemings has set his eyes on becoming a first-round pick in the NBA draft. With him declaring for the draft, Kelvin Sampson and Houston will certainly miss him. Moreover, Flemings also shared his feelings on leaving the Cougars.
“Honestly, that was not even on my mind coming into the year. I was just trying to focus so much. Just trying to come in here and prove to Milos (Uzan) or Ramon (Walker), Eman (Sharp) that I could play. Four on four. I think late nights, shooting with Mercy (Miller). During the year, I’m just so focused on winning. We love winning so much.”
“I was glad even off the losses (at UH). I would never want to be on a team after the losses where everyone’s just joking around. After every loss, no one’s talking (at Houston). You can just feel it in the locker room. Everyone’s just mad at the loss. And I love that,” Flemings said.
Kingston Flemings was one of the best players in college basketball last season. He averaged 16.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.2 assists in 37 games to lead the Cougars to a Sweet 16 finish.
Kingston Flemings addresses the media as he declares for the NBA draft
Flemings thanked all the media for coming out. He said it means a lot to him that he played for the Houston Cougars.
“I think just when I came here, I think it was June, you know, I was ready to work. I know in the recruitment process with Coach Sam, Coach Kel, with all the coaches, I mean, it was just, it was a journey for sure,” he said. He also shared that when he joined the Cougars, he was motivated and ready to prove himself and prove that coach Sampson did the right thing recruiting him.
“So when I was coming here and just playing with all my teammates, everything this year was everything I would hope for. You know in a year I wouldn’t trade this for anything else,” Flemings said.
He announced that he will be declaring for the draft, and he is proud of his coaches and teammates. He also stated that he’ll be a Cougar for life and is proud of the team.
