Khani Rooths Transfer Portal: Top 5 Potential Landing Spots for Louisville Forward

Louisville Cardinals’ sophomore forward Khani Rooths plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal when it officially opens on April 7, 2026. Rooths played 31 games for the Cardinals this season, averaging 5.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1 assist per game.

He played nearly 16 minutes per game and struggled with his shooting from distance, with just over 22% three pointers made. However, Rooths balanced it with 44.9% overall shooting from the field.

The Cardinals finished the season with a 24-11 overall record and 11-7 in the conference. They made the NCAA Tournament bracket, where they lost in the second round against the Michigan State Spartans.

Rooths will now look for better opportunities with two years remaining on his college eligibility. Here are his top five potential landing spots.

    Khani Rooths’ Potential Landing Spots

    Maryland Terrapins

As a Washington, D.C. native, a return home to Maryland can be viewed as a logical option for Rooths. But that’s not all that he’d be looking for, and that’s why Buzz Williams’ leadership at Maryland might be appealing to him.

    Indiana Hoosiers

With a 6’10 frame, the Indiana Hoosiers and the Big Ten conference are a perfect match for Rooths. He will get to develop under Darian DeVries while competing in one of the toughest conferences in the country.

    Georgetown Hoyas

The Georgetown Hoyas have been through a rough stretch, ending up at the bottom of the Big East conference. Their 6-14 conference run was one of the worst in program history, and they are in desperate need of a change.

While it might not be the safest choice for Rooths, joining the Hoyas will give him more playing time, space to develop, and better and bigger opportunities that some of the most stacked teams might not offer.

    Michigan Wolverines

The exact opposite of the Hoyas would be the Michigan Wolverines. They finished the regular season at the top of the Big Ten chart and are currently in the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament, where they’ll face the Arizona Wildcats.

If Rooths’ priority is to win games and make strong runs at the title, then Michigan would be one of the best teams to go with.

    Auburn Tigers

Auburn is currently under the new leadership of Steven Pearl, who became their head coach last year. In his first season, he went 20-16 overall and 7-11 in the conference. They’re in the rebuilding phase and could use a 6’10 forward’s help in that process.
