The Kentucky Wildcats continued their disappointing season with a defeat in their third game of the SEC Tournament, falling to the No. 1 seed Florida Gators 71-63 this Friday afternoon. With the win, the Gators advance to the semifinals, where they’ll play the winner of the game between Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
The defeat is yet another disappointing result in a Kentucky season that’s not up to the school’s standards. They finished ninth in the SEC standings, with an overall record of 21-13, and a conference mark of 10-8.
However, Kentucky’s fans seemed unable to realize that their program is not what it used to be, and instead decided to blame the officials for the debacle against Florida. Here’s what a Wildcats fan account said about the game and Florida’s Alex Condon:
“I’ve never seen a player be able to whatever they want without punishment quite the way Condon is. Stop rewarding unethical basketball.”
However, it didn’t take long for Kentucky fans to vehemently disagree with the statement.
“Blaming the refs when your $5 million backcourt is 6-21 is a choice,” wrote one person.
“Kentidks too short… Can’t shoot… Can’t rebound…. Stop complaining. You played terrible. You’ve led 0 minutes in three games combined. It’s the players and the coach,” explained another fan.
“It’s every game man, quit crying and field a good team. You have 32 points,” said a Florida fan.
Others thought the problem was the official in charge of the game, not the players.
“How is Doug Shows employed? I think people sitting at the top of the arena could make better calls genuinely,” complained another person.
Even Kentucky fans seemed to agree that the Wildcats were the problem.
“Stop crying, we are playing the worst game of the season and still up double digits,” lamented someone.
“Wow, are you serious? All those years of UK domination and now you complain because the Gators are winning,” said a surprised fan.
“Don’t be mad he is matching the physicality UK is bringing. He is just more skilled and fundamentally sound,” joked another person.
Where Will Kentucky Fall in the NCAA Tournament?
According to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, Kentucky is expected to be the No. 7 seed in the East region, playing No. 10 Santa Clara in St. Louis. If they win, they would advance to play the winner of No. 2 Iowa State and No. 15 Tennessee State.
That is, if Lunardi is right in his predictions.
