AJ Dybantsa has been one of the best players in college basketball this season. Ever since his high school career, everyone knew he was a special talent. He had a dominant high school run, and when he committed to BYU, they certainly counted their stars.
He is averaging 24.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in 31 games so far in his freshman season. However, BYU’s season has not really reflected Dybantsa’s success. They are 9-9 in the Big 12 and 21-10 overall. Their home record has been decent, but their away record stands at 3-6.
On the other side of the table, Arizona has been one of the most consistent teams all year. They have a conference record of 16-2 and 29-2 overall. Arizona gathered some great talent, and Tommy Lloyd found the correct combinations for the majority of the season. Their star men included freshman duo Koa Peat, Brayden Burries, and senior Jaden Bradley.
In 31 games, Bradley averages 13.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. Despite being a level below Dybantsa stats-wise, the Arizona star won the Big 12 Player of the Year award. AJ Dybantsa’s snub did not sit right with the fans.
“How??? Such a talented League and this is who you voted as best?!” one fan wondered.
“For those complaining, it’s not called Best Player in the Conference. It’s called Player of the Year. Jaden Bradley led his team to the conference championship and a 29-2 overall record. That’s what matters most for this award. Your players will get their flowers in the draft,” one fan explained.
“Somebody smoking crack… no way AJ didn’t win by a landslide… this award for best player I thought…,” another complained.
“This is a bigger scam than insurance,” one fan claimed.
“Genuine robbery from Dybantsa,” another stated.
“You guys are idiots. He isnt the best player on his team, he didnt put up the best stats in the league, he didnt carry his team, he wont be 1st team AA, and isnt the most talented player in the league. AJ is a yes to all of those…,” another fan ranted.
Fans React to AJ Dybantsa Winning Big 12 Freshman of the Year
Fans online were ecstatic after seeing AJ Dybantsa win the Big 12 honor.
“And should also be Player of the Year actually,” one fan complained.
“POY in my book. Congrats AJ,” another congratulated.
“Is this how we treat the best scorer – not just in the B12 – but in all of D1 NCAA?” another reacted.
“Easily the player of the year. If every coach could have one person in the conference on their team – both for potential and based on performance this year – it would be AJ,” one fan said.
“He’ll be the #1 NBA draft pick, leading scorer, HE IS ALSO THE POY,” another fan stated.
