The talk around the commitment of Marcus Spears Jr. is getting hotter day by day. The no. 1 recruit in the 2027 class is wanted by many, but it appears there might be some signs that Kentucky have all the momentum needed to be able to recruit the young man.
The latest chapter in this story comes via a tweet from Kentucky alumnus and current ESPN host, Michael Eaves, who took his own shot at trying to get Spears Jr. to commit to his alma mater by directing a message to his father, Marcus Spears.
“So.. Marcus.. how much time have you spent in Lexington, KY?” was the question asked by Eaves to Marcus Spears, who is a colleague of Eaves on ESPN, where he routinely acts as an analyst after his many years playing in the NFL.
Eaves’ message to Spears came on a tweet by Spears talking about his son’s hard work, as his size and strength in high school were praised earlier.
Eaves himself graduated from the University of Kentucky decades ago with a B.A. Journalism degree and has since worked in the field of reporting, ending up as a key part of the ESPN broadcast team, where he primarily works as an anchor on SportsCenter now.
What is the Status of Marcus Spears Jr’s Recruitment?
Marcus Spears Jr. is being touted by several top programs across the country owing to his impressive development in high school, with the likes of Michigan, Arkansas, Villanova, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Kentucky to name a few, all vying to get his signature from 2027 onwards.
Kentucky head coach Mark Pope has also been proactive in getting Spears Jr. to Lexington after previously missing out on recruiting the No. 1 recruit in the 2026 class, Tyran Stokes, earlier this year.
Spears Jr. is widely reported to be visiting Kentucky soon, as Pope and co try to tie him down to a commitment from 2027.
