“Really Stupid”: Fans Reject Todd Golden’s Reasoning as he Threatens Legal Action if Denzel Aberdeen’s Eligibility Is Denied

Florida head coach Todd Golden seems intent on taking action if the NCAA doesn’t allow one of his top players in Denzel Aberdeen to compete for the Gators in the coming season. Fans, however, don’t necessarily seem to agree with Golden’s reasoning for the same, pointing to other cases with similar results.

The NCAA’s “five-for-five” eligibility ruling basically allows student athletes five years of play without redshirting, but with the new rules including clauses that do not retroactively allow graduating seniors a final fifth year of eligibility, Aberdeen would technically be ineligible to play in the 2026-27 season.

Golden clearly wants to fight this, but a lot of fans seem to think it shouldn’t necessarily be allowed.

    What Were Todd Golden’s Comments?

Todd Golden feels that common sense needs to prevail and the NCAA should allow Denzel Aberdeen eligibility as a result.

“Our hope is that there’s some common sense that comes into play before that, and they look at a guy that’s 22 years old – so, way younger than a lot of these guys that are still playing in college – that, again, is back working for his undergraduate degree within his five-year clock,” Golden told Joe Tipton in the interview.

“There’s a lot of things that are going his way. So, we’ll do what we need to do to make sure he’s supported properly.”

With possible legal action forthcoming, this might not be the end of the Denzel Aberdeen eligibility story by any means.
