Bill Self has been coaching since 1985. He is one of the most renowned coaches in the history of the sport. His coaching career started at Kansas as an assistant coach. After four other stints, Bill came back to where he started. He has been serving Kansas for almost 23 years.
Bill has had an illustrious career. He has an 830-267 record. He has also won two national championships with Kansas in 2008 and 2022. Just a year before the 2022 championship, Bill signed a lifetime contract extension, and clearly, that has turned out to be a great decision. In addition to that, he has also led Kansas to four Final Four appearances and 8 Big 12 tournaments.
However, unfortunately, there have been multiple health scares for the Jayhawks’ head coach. Bill Self did not travel with the team for the game against Colorado on Tuesday. He was hospitalized and later broke the silence about the reason behind his absence.
Bill Self did not feel well on Monday. As an abundance of caution, he was then taken to the hospital. “
I’ll be sitting out tonight’s game, and as I’ve said before, we have an elite coaching staff at KU, and I know our players are in good hands in Boulder,” Self said. “Jacque Vaughn will serve as the acting head coach tonight.”
Fans extended their support and wished for his quick recovery. Kansas would certainly look to grab a win over Colorado in the absence of their head coach, Bill Self.
