Five-Star Tyran Stokes Deemed Ahead of Scottie Barnes, Similar to NBA Star as Final Commitment Nears

Five-star Tyran Stokes is a consensus No. 1 overall recruit in the country and his commitment news is having every top college basketball program on the edge. The 6-foot-7 star averaged around 31 points, 13 rebounds and six assists in her senior season at Rainier Beach (Seattle).

Stokes is reportedly considering Kansas, Kentucky and Oregon. He’s also talking to Gonzaga and Washington. According to Basketball Insider Adam Zagoria, he will announce his commitment after the Nike Hoop Summit on April 11. Stokes is potentially waiting out the transfer portal storm before he figures out his future destination.

Another basketball analyst, Cory Alexander, compared Stokes to Scottie Barnes, claiming the five-star recruit is more offensively skilled than the Toronto Raptors was at the time. Alexander also named one NBA star whose profile is similar to that of a Kentucky native.

” I believe at this stage alone that Tyran is more offensively skilled than Scottie Barnes was at this time…I believe that he is very similar to Cade [Cunningham]…When you look at Tyran…he’s going to be a point at the highest level,” Alexander said.

Everything To Know About Tyran Stokes

Tyran Stokes is being seen as a future No. 1 NBA Draft pick (2027). The five-star recruit led his school to a state championship and has also dropped 63 points in a single game. His size and strength make him an exciting prospect for the scouts. He’s not just an elite scorer but has the ability to guard multiple positions. Many have drawn comparisons with Cooper Flagg, who was picked first overall by the Dallas Mavericks last year.

With USA Basketball, Stokes has won gold medals at the U16 Americas (2023) and U17 World Cup (2024).

In the latest recruitment news, Stokes has narrowed it down to Kentucky Wildcats, Kansas Jayhawks and Oregon Ducks. He’s one of the only uncommitted top-50 players left.

Stokes is not rushing the commitment decision. He’s contemplating various things in a program, including coaching fit and system fit (how he’ll be used), since he’s projected to be there for one season only.
