The UConn Huskies find themselves at the center of transfer portal buzz around Duke’s Nik Khamenia. Last week, the former five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American entered the transfer portal after averaging 5.7 points and 3.3 rebounds in 19.8 minutes per game last season.
UConn is emerging as a strong contender for the 6-foot-8 wing. A Duke fan recently ignited chatter about the UConn rumors by writing the following:
“On another note I’m not upset that Khamenia is leaving Duke, he was an “okay” player at best and a tweener with a lack of athleticism and I think it’s absolutely the best thing for Duke because his spot will go to a better player. It just sucks he picked UConn.”
UConn and Duke are fierce rivals, and in the recent NCAA Tournament, Dan Hurley’s team defeated the Blue Devils in the Elite Eight.
Fans were quick to weigh in:
“Khamenia is gonna be a baller. Awesome kid. Public enemy #1 if he goes to UConn. But he is still a great player and great teammate,” one fan wrote.
“Whatever happened to staying closer to home? Last time I checked, Connecticut is as far from LA as it gets,” one fan wrote.
“Nik Khamenia welcome to the hate watch for life,” one fan added.
“I’m done with him. He will sit in the bench. Have fun, Nick,” one fan reacted.
“He was slower than molasses flowing uphill.. we will get a much better player,” one fan commented.
Arizona Also Linked to Nik Khamenia in Transfer Portal Buzz
Nik Khamenia is also generating interest from the Arizona Wildcats, given his ties to head coach Tommy Lloyd.
“Nikolas Khamenia to Arizona makes a ton of sense on paper,” CBS Sports writer Cameron Salerno wrote on X. “Tommy Lloyd coached him last summer on the U19 team + he has ties to the West Coast. He also addresses a need for Arizona: shooting. Definitely a breakout candidate next season in the right situation.”
Khamenia was also reportedly considering returning to Duke; however, that now appears a distant possibility.
