“So They Can Choke”: Fans Reject Dallas’ Alleged Interest in Jon Scheyer as Duke Waits Nervously

Jon Scheyer is the latest college head coach to be linked with a move to the NBA, with the Duke boss suddenly under the scanner of the Dallas Mavericks.

The news has spread like wildfire after the Mavericks confirmed that they had parted ways with their head coach Jason Kidd, with news outlets rushing to cover the story after it first broke out.

But if you ask the majority of basketball fans, it seems they aren’t quite convinced, both of the authenticity of Dallas’ interest, of Scheyer’s abilities, and indeed of his own interest in a move to the NBA while he has a good thing going at Duke.

Fans took to the comment sections of one such post to lay out their true feelings about Scheyer potentially moving to the Mavs.

“Why? So they can choke back to back years,” one fan argued. “This guy has not proved one thing. The only reason he’s had any kind of success at all is because of the Name Duke and Coach Ks legacy. Those two things have gotten him all the talent in the world and he still couldn’t win.”

Another commented: “Hasn’t this guy had back to back “nba rosters” and couldn’t get them to the college finals let alone win???”

“Why would he leave a lifetime job competing for nattys every year for a mid NBA team,” one fan noted.

“He would be crazy to leave Duke. NBA jobs don’t last long,” another commented.

“That’ll be a short phone call on the Scheyer side,” another agreed.

Is Dallas the Right Move for Jon Scheyer?

It’s safe to say that the majority of fans have a point. Moving to the NBA shouldn’t be the number one priority for Jon Scheyer considering he has one of the best college programs under him and the team is poised for another successful year.

The rough and tough world of the NBA might be an unnecessary step at a time when players and fans alike believe in Scheyer’s vision to take Duke forward after a rich legacy left behind by Coach K.
