Elliot Cadeau took to Instagram live after winning the NCAA Championship with the Michigan Wolverines, who defeated the UConn Huskies 69-63 on Monday night at Indianapolis.
Cadeau, who had 19 points on 5-11 shooting, including 1-4 from the three-point line, to go along with three rebounds, two assists and two steals, hit back at the critics who mocked him. He was named Most Outstanding Player.
Broadcasting himself live on the social media platform from the locker room, Cadeau said:
“Good job. Talk to me, man,” Cadeau said. “They said I couldn’t do it. “They tried to tell me I was a**, man. What the f*ck they talking about? They tried to tell me I was a**.”
Cadeua has had a great NCAA Tournament. In the Final Four win against Arizona, he had 13 points, five rebounds and 10 assists. Overall, in the NCAA Tournament, Cadeau averaged 12.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 7.5 assists, 0.5 blocks, and 1.7 steals per game. He shot 37.5%, including 38.7% from beyond the arc.
Elliot Cadeau Redeems Himself With NCAA Championship
Elliot Cadeau was named Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. But a year ago, he was considered a liability for the North Carolina Tar Heels fans following the first round exit in the NCAA Tournament. As a result, over the past year, he has lived through all kind of criticism.
“I feel like there’s been so much criticism against me for the past couple of years,” Cadeau said. “I try not to pay attention to it, but I do see it. Try not to let it affect me, and just try to just believe in myself, no matter what people say about me.”
Cadeau decided to leave North Carolina and transferred to Michigan last year. Fellow Michigan guard Nimari Burnett believes head coach Dusty May is to be credited for his success in Ann Arbor.
“You can win big with (coach) Dusty May, because he will bring the best out of you, and that’s exactly what he did with Elliot,” Burnett said.
After winning the NCAA title, Cadeau was really happy:
“Man, it means the world to me. I’m just so proud of myself, where I came from. Last year I was really down on myself, a lot of people doubted me, and I’m just so proud of myself for me to be able to say I was the Most Outstanding Player and win a national championship at the same time.”
It appears he made the right call to come to Michigan and he’s two trophies richer at the end of the season.
