Former Duke Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski recently spoke candidly about first-year star Cameron Boozer. On Thursday, March 5, Krzyzewski, also known as Coach K, was a guest on analyst Jeff Goodman’s “Field of 68” podcast, where they discussed several topics, particularly the Blue Devils.
At one point in the interview, Krzyzewski was asked for his thoughts on Boozer, as Goodman discussed the stacked rookie class that has been highlighted in the current campaign. As soon as Goodman mentioned Boozer, Krzyzewski praised the young talent as the best among all of the rookies, even better than the likes of BYU Cougars swingman AJ Dybantsa and Kansas Jayhawks guard Darryn Peterson.
“He’s the best one, I think. Yeah, he’s not, there’s one, and then there’s who you want to put two. But, it’s, you know, to me it’s not close. This kid is so dependable, so poised, and puts up amazing numbers and accuracy in passing and rebounding. He sets a physical tone for our team that another team has to match, but then he can add all the talents of passing. He can really shoot the ball,” Krzyzewski said (6:30).
Boozer is currently in his first and likely final year of collegiate hoops in the 2025-26 season under the tutelage of coach Jon Scheyer and the Durham, North Carolina-based program. The son of former NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer is projected to be a top-three pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, with how he fared against Dybantsa, Peterson, and the rest of the 2026 freshman class.
Mike Krzyzewski Tones Down His Cameron Boozer Take By Putting Him Up With Other Program Rookies
In the same interview, Mike Krzyzewski toned down his take about Cameron Boozer by putting him up with previous freshmen in the storied Duke Blue Devils history.
The program has had stellar rookies in the past, including Cooper Flagg and Zion Williamson, which is why Krzyzewski reworded his statement.
“You know, I think he’s had, really, a good year as any freshman that has played here. Now, I’m not, we have a lot of, I’m not saying who’s the best one or whatever. I’ll get in trouble. But, he’s had as good a year as any freshman that’s ever played here,” Krzyzewski shared (7:45).
