“May Not Hit Highest of Highs Like AJ Dybantsa or Darryn Peterson”: Analysts Give Their Verdict on Cameron Boozer

BYU Cougars’ AJ Dybantsa, Kansas Jayhawks’ Darryn Peterson, and Duke Blue Devils’ Cameron Boozer are three names that have been on everybody’s minds. The three have elevated this year’s freshman class and are fighting for the No. 1 spot in the NBA Draft.

After 28 games this season, there isn’t much to separate Dybantsa and Boozer. Peterson, on the other hand, has only played 17 games due to his recurring injury issues. AJ is averaging 25.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. Boozer is averaging 22.7 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 4 assists. Peterson is averaging 19.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists.

Recently, analysts Bill Simmons and J. Kyle Mann talked about Cameron Boozer’s potential and future in the NBA.

“Are people just dinging him, Kyle, because it’s a Duke thing? And this is what we do with Duke guys? Where it’s like, there’s a lot of ‘yeah, buts’ with Cam Boozer, and I don’t really understand it because from what I see, like the dude, every game gets his stats. He’s always around the rim. He hustles. He really gives a shit. He’s a good passer. There’s just no way he’s not going to be a good pro,” Bill Simmons said.

“I think people are misidentifying his player type in a way,” J. Kyle Mann replied. “He mentioned how Cam Boozer is often compared to Jared Sullinger, Tyler Hansbrough. He shared how he believes that the Duke star is a cross between Kevin Love and Al Horford.”

“He may not hit the highest of highs like of the shot-making brilliance and the things like AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson might. But I think he’s a guy that’s going to win and just win,” Mann said.

Comparison Between Duke, Kansas, and BYU’s Seasons

Both Duke and Kansas have had a memorable season. Despite some concerns over Kansas’ form, Bill Self’s men haven’t been that bad. Duke is comfortably the first seed with just two losses. They have a 14-1 conference record and 26-2 overall.

Kansas, on the other hand, has lost seven in total, with 11-4 in the Big 12 and 21-7 overall. Despite AJ Dybantsa’s heroic freshman season, BYU has lost seven games in the Big 12, which is concerning ahead of the March Madness. Only time will tell which superstar can take his team to ultimate glory.
