Will Dayton Make March Madness? Analyst Lays Out Possible Scenarios For Flyers’ NCAA Tournament Chances

The Dayton Flyers are playing the VCU Rams in the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship Game today. Both teams are coming in with momentum on their side; however, the Rams have had a slightly better run this season. They are second with a 26-7 overall record and a 15-3 conference record.

The Rams have won their last five games, and at halftime they lead the Flyers 40-25.

The Flyers, on the other hand, are fourth in the conference with a 23-10 overall record. They are 12-6 in the conference and on a two-game winning streak. There’s more on the line than the Atlantic 10 title if they lose to the Rams.

According to Seth Davis, the Flyers have a chance to make March Madness if they win the conference title game against the Rams. However, beating VCU won’t be easy because of how great they are on defense.

Davis used their game against the Saint Joseph’s Hawks as an example, noting they gave away only five free throws while restricting the Hawks to just 64 points.

“So, that is one thing that VCU is really good at is playing defense without fouling,” Davis said. “I will say, if Dayton wins, I have VCU personally on my ‘last four in’ list. So, if Dayton wins this game, one of those bubble teams that’s sweating out today, is unfortunately gonna be on the outside looking in, in my opinion.”

The VCU Rams have executed perfectly. They’ve held the Flyers to just 25 points while their offense has exploded for 40.
