Darryn Peterson Lists NBA Stars He Takes Inspiration from Feat. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Anthony Edwards And More

Darryn Peterson was one of the most talked about players during last season. He played under Bill Self for Kansas. 5-star recruit had a lot of hype behind him when he announced his commitment. He and AJ Dybantsa had shared the court before in high school and everybody knew they were going to be two of the best players in college basketball.

Unfortunately for Peterson, he could not showcase 100% of what he has to offer. He suffered multiple injuries in his freshman season. He had issues with his hamstring and had suffered severe full-body cramps. He later revealed that his struggles were related to high-dose creatine intake. This hospitalized him and due to which he could only play 24 games.

Despite missing a lot of game time, he did show what he is capable of. There were a lot of doubts around his commitment to the team and also his willingness to give 100%. There was controversy around him wanting to be on the bench and subbing himself out in multiple games. Despite all that, he still managed to average 20.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists which was impressive. Recently he mentioned how he models his game and which players he is inspired from.

“Devin Booker, Anthony Edwards, Shai [Gilgeous-Alexander], Donovan Mitchell, Dame [Damian Lillard],” Peterson said. “The ways that they score, they all score in different ways. The way they take space. Most of them are getting guarded super hard during the games. So, I think how they get easy shots.”

Fans react to Darryn Peterson’s honest admission

Fans were appreciative of Peterson’s answer and expressed high hopes from him in the NBA.

“Yeah man, he is going to be awesome on the Jazz,” one fan predicted.

“Darryn about to feast in the league,” another said.

“As a Heat fan, I think the Wizards want Peterson and will trade w the Jazz, add a FRP or smt and get Peterson anyways,” one fan commented.

“He’s by far the better player hits too bad we’ve all convinced ourselves of AJ,” one fan claimed.

“Dame is the only answer I like in that list. He’s a great one ball handler and facilitator. I think if DP wants to be a PG he’ll need to learn to leverage his scoring threat to playmaker the way Dame does rather than the others on that list,” another stated.

“He might be the right guy the Wizards should take,” one fan commented.
