Darryn Peterson Impressively Measures Up to Dwyane Wade at the NBA Draft Combine

Darryn Peterson is one of the best players from the 2026 freshman class. Despite his injury struggles, the opportunities he has gotten over the course of last season have shown why he is so highly rated. Peterson’s season was hindered by a plethora of injuries. He suffered severe and repetitive cramps along with issues with his hamstring.

Despite only playing 24 games, Darryn Peterson averaged 20.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists. Unfortunately for him and Bill Self, his one-and-done freshman season could not bring the Jayhawks any success. Kansas was eliminated in the second round of the NCAA tournament by Rick Pitino’s St. John’s.

Peterson is still being touted as one of the top three prospects in this year’s draft. Many believe he might even go as the number 1 pick ahead of the likes of AJ Dybantsa, Cameron Boozer, Caleb Wilson, and more. His NBA draft combine numbers have only helped his case, drawing comparisons to one of the greatest players of all time.

“Darryn Peterson’s closest physical comp in the DX database: 21-year old Dwyane Wade coming out of Marquette. Little taller, comparable frame, near-identical length and reach. Peterson has time to add bulk at 19,” NBA draft expert Jonathan Givony reported.

Peterson was recorded at 6’4.5, 198.8 lbs, 6’9.75 wingspan and 8’7 standing reach. In 2003, Wade was recorded at 6’3.75, 212 lbs, 6’10.75 wingspan and 8’6 standing reach.

Fans react to Darryn Peterson almost matching Dwyane Wade

Given Peterson’s season, many doubt his ability. So when his NBA draft combine numbers were compared to Wade’s, fans were skeptical.

“But the looking nothing alike on the court so this is pointless,” one fan said.

    “What about SGA?

    Height SGA – 6’4.5″ w/o shoes Darryn – 6’4.5″ w/o shoes

    Weight SGA – 180 LBS Darryn – 198.8 LBS

    Wingspan SGA – 6’11.5″ Darryn – 6’9.75″

Standing Reach SGA – 8’8″ Darryn – 8’7″,” one fan listed.

“look the same but they got completely different games,” another commented.

“He doesn’t get to the rim at will like D Wade used to. Dybantsa is a actually a more comparable slasher to Wade,” one fan claimed.

“And play nothing alike lol,” another stated.

“Wade was Tough! Peterson couldnt string 3 games in a row at Kansas,” one fan commented.
