Michigan Wolverines center Aday Mara is making headlines once again at the 2026 NBA Draft Combine, but for a different reason: his ability to stretch the floor. On Monday, May 11, Mara’s draft combine measurements went viral after they were deemed absurd and historic. In fact, Mara’s measurements stacked up with those of lengthy NBA players, such as Phoenix Suns big man Mark Williams and former Boston Celtics stalwart Tacko Fall.
In total, Mara was measured at 7’3″ and 260 pounds, with a 7’6″ wingspan and 9’9″ standing reach, according to NBA draft expert Jonathan Givony. Mara’s standing reach tied Williams in draft combine history, just falling short of Fall for the top spot. Now, videos of Mara’s hot three-point and spot-up shooting are going viral all over social media.
Fans and spectators are being sent into a frenzy with how a player of Mara’s height can possess such great shooting skills. In one video by NBA reporter Erik Slater on X/Twitter, Mara is seen shooting from the right corner and made 12 out of 25 shot attempts; resulting in a 48% clip.
“He’s got a nice jumper for someone his size,” one fan said.
“Cash from top of the key, that’s all he needs,” another fan shared.
“Good to see these big men stupidly having to show their three-point range. It’s such a great way to impose your size on the defense,” a fan wrote.
Other users pointed out what else Mara can work on in terms of his shooting.
“He’s definitely a project, but every team would love him,” one user asserted.
“Form is actually decent. He has potential. If a team can’t develop players and make them better, then those staff need to be fired,” another fan claimed.
“He got to work on it a lil’ bit but he looks comfortable shooting it,” a user posted.
Mara’s skill at shooting the ball was not seen early on during his college basketball career, which is why more onlookers are now impressed with his improvement. In his first two years with the UCLA Bruins, Mara did not attempt any kind of three-point shot. When he moved on over to the Wolverines during his junior year, the Zaragoza, Spain native shot 30% for the 2025-26 season.
Mara likely worked all offseason long on his three-point jumper to expand his skillset ahead of the draft. As a result, mock drafts everywhere have boosted projections for Mara into a possible lottery pick.
While Aday Mara locks into the NBA Draft Combine process, his teammate may return to college hoops
It seems as though Aday Mara is really focused on making it into the NBA. The other Michigan Wolverine who is going through the draft process right now is his teammate, forward Morez Johnson Jr.
Mara is expected to be a lottery pick while Johnson remains as a late first-round projection. Given that the deadline for college basketball players to return to their program and maintain their eligibility is on May 27, Johnson has just under two weeks to improve his stock if he is not satisfied with his current projection. Mara returning to Michigan, despite his performance in the combine so far, should not also be ruled out.
