As UConn coach Dan Hurley knows, March is the most stressful month of the year. After months of battling, Hurley’s Huskies entered the biggest tournament in sports.
Things got a bit too close for comfort for the Huskies over the weekend against UCLA, but even Hurley’s wife could feel the pressure. She let off some steam when the team won the contest, sprinting through the tunnel in a story posted on Instagram on Monday morning.
Dan Hurley’s wife, Andrea, exclaimed “Sweet 16!!” in a caption on the post. Clearly, she was fired up by the result. She could be heard happily screaming and celebrating in the videos she shared on her Instagram story.
The final score was a significant margin in which the UConn Huskies appeared to take care of business comfortably with a score of 73-57. However, the matchup was closer for much of the contest.
The UCLA Bruins hung around in the first half, keeping the game within two possessions. The Bruins went into halftime down five points in a 33-38 contest. The Huskies scored a similar number of points in the second half, but the team’s defense improved, holding the Bruins to 24.
UConn won the contest by 16 points thanks to the strong second-half performance. Of course, things won’t get any easier.
Dan Hurley’s UConn Huskies Gear Up To Face Biggest Test Yet
While the team managed to get to the Sweet 16 while playing from ahead, the team might need to overcome a deficit against the Michigan State Spartans in the next round. The third-ranked team in the country awaits the Huskies in a matchup on Friday.
The Spartans, a team coming off an eight-point win against the sixth-ranked Louisville Cardinals, will have everything focused on defeating Hurley’s team.
Of course, for Hurley, who lost in the second round of the tournament after winning the NCAA Tournament National Final the two previous years, might have a date with destiny to hoist three victories in four years. Still, the coach and his squad will need to play it out while his wife, Andrea, cheers from the sidelines.
