Dan Hurley’s UConn Huskies are coming off a commanding 72-40 victory over Rick Pitino’s St. John on Wednesday. Hurley’s Huskies handed Pitino his biggest loss at St. John’s and snapped the Red Storm’s 13-game winning streak. The 15th ranked St John’s were limited to a measly 19.6% shooting during this loss.
There is a saying which goes like “There’s no rest for the wicked.” The same would apply to Dan Hurley as well who has his own unique ways to celebrate such a massive win against a veteran college coach.
Hurley’s wife Andrea Sirakides Hurley posted a story which gave fans a glimpse at the UConn coach’s post-game ritual at home. In her caption, she wrote:
“Frozen pizza and more college bball is how this guy celebrates his big wins.”

The snap posted by Andrea Hurley showed Dan Hurley enjoying his slice of pizza while watching another college basketball game on TV. In a way, this shows how obsessed coach Hurley is with the game of basketball in and out of the court and practice arena.
The postgame conference of this matchup was hilarious as Dan Hurley once again reiterated one of his most popular superstitions: choosing the right underwear before a big game. After securing his dominating victory against Pitino’s St. John’s, Hurley spoke about what he specifically focused on before taking on the Red Storm.
“All I cared about today was just getting the right underwear,” Hurley said.
Perhaps, all of these superstitions and beliefs works best when you are confident enough about your team and its stars playing on the court.
Dan Hurley Throws Subtle Shade at St. John’s
Dan Hurley has noticed how St. John’s resurgence is affecting the crowd at MSG. The Huskies and Red Storm are expected to be the potential matchup in the Big East final in two weeks. However, he jokingly made a remark asserting how the venue for this historic championship should be changed, taking a sly dig at the St. John’s fans.
“Obviously, we expect to see them potentially a third time,” Hurley said. “But I do want to move that Big East Tournament somewhere else because I do think St. John’s has too big of an advantage playing the Big East Tournament at MSG, now that their fan base is, like, woke up and packs that place. I’d like to move it to the Prudential Center. I’m saying that tongue in cheek, obviously, guys.”
The MSG is indeed one of the most brutal arenas, with St. John’s fans now becoming a majority where once UConn used to shine. So, was Hurley trying to insinuate avoiding the pressure if he were to face Pitino’s Red Storm once again for the Big East Finals?
