After Charles Bediako Loses NCAA Eligibility, 25-YO Kyree Walker Makes His Official Visit to Maryland

After Alabama Crimson Tide stalwart Charles Bediako lost his eligibility to continue playing at the collegiate level, it seems as though another player with professional experience will try his luck. On Thursday, Feb. 12, it was reported by college basketball writer Joe Tipton on his X/Twitter account that former NBA G-League player Kyree Walker made his official visit to the University of Maryland campus on Wednesday.

Walker visited the aforementioned school’s campus to meet with coach Buzz Williams‘ Maryland Terrapins in the hopes of being integrated into their 2025-26 season roster and play for the remainder of the year. The development follows Tipton’s initial report on Walker, wherein the 25-year-old scheduled the official visit a week ago on Feb. 7, as it was confirmed that Walker is exploring a move to college hoops.

Walker was a part of the high school recruiting class of 2020, where he was a four-star prospect and was ranked nationally at No. 35 among all recruits. He initially committed to the Arizona State Sun Devils for his college basketball program for the 2020-2021 campaign, but decided to forego all of his eligibility to play basketball professionally.

Walker has had professional stints in different leagues around the globe, which include the NBA G-League, the Greek A2 Basket League, the Canadian Elite Basketball League, and others. Walker might face the same backlash that Charles Bediako recently did if he indeed suits up for the Terrapins.

Bediako’s preliminary injunction to continue playing college basketball was denied on Tuesday, Feb. 10, after just five games logged for the Crimson Tide this season. As a former professional player, Bediako was met with heckles and boos everywhere he went.

The Maryland Terrapins Are The 14th Seed In The 2026 Big Ten Conference Standings

If Kyree Walker does decide to commit to the Maryland Terrapins, he will be joining a team that is currently the No. 14 seed in the 2026 Big Ten conference standings with an overall record of 10-14 (3-10 Big Ten).

Despite the subpar standing, the Maryland-based program is on a two-game winning streak. The Terrapins’ next game is against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Sunday, Feb. 15.
