“We Got Punched in the Mouth”: Cameron Boozer Confesses Taking Siena for Granted As Duke Almost Got Embarrassed in NCAA Tournament’s First Round

Duke Blue Devils star Cameron Boozer has confessed that his team did not take its opponent too seriously in the opening game of this year’s NCAA Tournament.

On Thursday, March 19, Boozer and the rest of coach Jon Scheyer’s Blue Devils faced coach Gerry McNamara’s Siena Saints in neutral territory, the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina.

The game did not start in Duke’s favor, as they were down by 11 points, 43-32, by halftime, to the surprise of the whole college hoops world. However, the Blue Devils fought back and eventually won 71-65.

In a video uploaded by reporter Travon Miles, Boozer was asked during a post-game interview about his team’s poor start to the game.

“We came out here with the mentality that it was gonna be handed to us, and obviously, it’s not what happened. And we got punched in the mouth, so we just got to learn from it going forward,” Boozer said. “It just happens, you know. We didn’t come out here with a defensive mindset like we have all year long, so we got to do that moving forward.”

Fortunately for Boozer and company, they won by six points, 71-65, over the Saints after taking control of the latter minutes of the tightly-contested game. Now, the Blue Devils turn their attention towards coach Jamie Dixon’s TCU Horned Frogs. The two teams will clash in the second round of this year’s March Madness on Friday, March 20.

Cameron Boozer’s Brother, Cayden, Shares His Thoughts On The Duke-Siena Game

In a video uploaded by @CBSSportsCBB on X/Twitter, Cameron Boozer’s twin brother and teammate, Cayden, was asked by reporter Tracy Wolfson to reflect on the first half of their game against the Siena Saints.

Cayden Boozer had similar sentiments as his brother, as he mentioned that his team should’ve been more prepared.

“ Man, it was a great game. Obviously, you got to give Sienna a lot of credit. They played harder than us the first half. And, the whole halftime we were talking about we’re not going home. We’re gonna do whatever we can to not go home and, it was a battle. They did a great job, and I’m just super proud of our guys, you know, weathering the storm,” Cayden Boozer shared.
