“Suddenly He’s Not Overrated”: BYU Fans React as Rob Wright Withdraws From Transfer Portal

The BYU Cougars just pulled off one of the most surprising twists of the transfer portal cycle. After weeks of speculation linking him to the Kentucky Wildcats, star guard Rob Wright III has officially withdrawn from the transfer portal and will return to Provo next season. The decision instantly flipped the narrative around one of the portal’s most talked-about players.

Wright was widely considered one of the top guards available in the portal. Coming off a standout season, he averaged over 18 points per game while shooting efficiently from the field and beyond the arc.

Naturally, his decision to stay caught fans off guard.

“Suddenly he’s not overrated and definitely not getting overpayed,” one fan joked, pointing out how quickly opinions shifted once Wright chose to remain at BYU instead of leaving.

“Pretty uncomfortable for all those BYU fans who shit all over him once he hit the portal,” another wrote.

Another took a more sarcastic route, writing, “Incoming Kentucky fans claiming BYU’s NIL package to Wright included $20mil and the Gaza Strip to win him over,” poking fun at the constant NIL speculation. .

The Kentucky Wildcats were widely seen as a serious contender to land Wright. His visit to Lexington had generated significant buzz, with many expecting Mark Pope to secure a key piece for next season.

“Kentucky is so down bad lmao. That program is being tanked by pope,” one fan wrote, highlighting the growing frustration surrounding the Wildcats’ offseason.

Another added, “Pope on a generational run,” using sarcasm to question how the situation unfolded.

There were even some attempts to downplay Wright’s impact. “Small and does not defend. My guess is he did not have many offers from high major teams,” one user claimed.
