Will Wade has been on a recruiting roll and seems convinced he can take LSU to the top of the college basketball world.
His unique strategy of betting on players willing to return to college after brief professional stints has angered many, but he could still get away with it if the courts rule in his favor. That being said, the old school way of recruiting out of high school is far from dead, and it appears LSU has a great chance of landing one of the top recruits in 2027 as things stand.
Marcus Spears Jr. is yet to make his decision on which college to go to, but as the top player in the 2027 class, his options are undoubtedly abundant. Addressing the possibility of joining LSU, the teenager admitted he hasn’t spoken to Will Wade directly yet, but the LSU coaching staff is very much in touch.
“I haven’t talked to coach Wade yet, but I’ve been in contact with the assistants,” Spears Jr. told Sam Lance of The Field of 68. “I’ve seen what Coach Wade did at NC State and obviously he did good so I’ll be looking into it.”
Why Marcus Spears Jr. is an LSU Target
Aside from the fact that he’s a talented kid and the top-rated recruit in 2027, LSU probably has another reason to sign Spears Jr.
The 6’9″ forward is the son of former LSU football star Marcus Spears Sr. and probably knows a lot about the program through his dad alone, making this an ideal place for both him and the college, considering they’re keen to shake off some of the blame they’re getting around recruitment.
