Analyst Boldly Predicts Projected No. 1 Overall Pick AJ Dybantsa To Be ‘NBA’s Most Unstoppable Shot Creators’

BYU Cougars star AJ Dybantsa declared for the 2026 NBA draft, where he is projected to be drafted first overall over fellow college basketball stars Darryn Peterson and Cameron Boozer. Most draft boards have Dybantsa at the top.

Going one step ahead, basketball analyst Kevin Connor predicted that Dybantsa would become “the NBA’s most unstoppable shot creator.” Connor expanded his thoughts on the same:

“AJ DeBonza could become one of the NBA’s most unstoppable shot creators,” Connor said on Sunday. “At 6’9″, he has a special blend of athletic tools: the way he bends, shifts, and explodes with the ball in his hands. DeBonza led the nation with 25.5 points per game and gets to the rim at will.”

Connor also highlighted that Dybantsa is special in a way that he can finish with both hands, a quality rarely seen in basketball players.

“He takes long, herky-jerky strides on his way to the basket, displays ambidextrous finishing ability, and can score from awkward angles,” Connor continued. “Over 40% of his shots came at the rim at BYU, and he made 63% of them. He can also cook in the midrange, he draws fouls at a high rate, and he displays point-forward potential.”

Connor also suggested that Dybantsa has the ability to match up against double teams with the help of his accurate passing. However, he raised an important factor that could determine Dybantsa’s true ceiling in the NBA.

“What will determine DeBonza’s upside is whether he can become a knockdown three-point shooter as well as a more impactful defender to take full advantage of his physical tools,” Connor added. “But the native of Brockton, Massachusetts, has a tremendously high floor with his scoring skill alone.”

AJ Dybantsa To Only Work Out With These Two NBA Teams

According to Krysten Peek of Hoops HQ, projected first overall pick AJ Dybantsa will work out with only two NBA teams ahead of the draft.

The consensus first-team All-American, who averaged 25.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.1 steals while shooting 33.1% from 3-point range, will visit only the Washington Wizards and Utah Jazz. Both these teams hold the first two picks in the draft.

This gives a clear suggestion that Dybantsa is bullish and confident in his draft stock so much that he doesn’t see a need to schedule a workout with a third NBA team. It remains to be seen if the draft plays out the way it is expected.
