Amari Allen NBA Draft Decision: Alabama Star Weighs In on His Mindset Ahead of Big Choice

Amari Allen is deciding whether to stay back with Alabama or to go to the NBA, as he has declared for the draft. He has until May 27 to make the decision. An update has been shared, giving a better idea of his decision-making factors.

According to NBA draft insider, Allen’s decision is contingent upon where he is projected to get drafted. If he doesn’t get selected in the first round, there’s a good chance he’ll return to Alabama, which is assuring him a featured role. The Crimson Tide has reportedly assured Allen that he’d “have the ball in his hands a lot” next year.

This is what Allen said when he met reporters on Wednesday:

“Obviously, first round. If it was second round, I would go back to school. I definitely feel I can go back to college and be a 20 (points) and 10 (rebounds) guy. Ultimately, though, I want to go to the NBA.”

A first-round selection will guarantee Allen significant pay and the difference could be in the range of millions of dollars between the two rounds. First-round NBA picks receive contracts tied to the NBA’s rookie salary scale, which comes with a guaranteed deal of four years, including options in Years 3 and 4.

In contrast, second-round picks do not receive standardized rookie-scale contracts. Salary terms are negotiated on an individual basis and some of the times it results in partially guaranteed contracts, shorter deals, or two-way contracts that split time between the NBA and G League.

Thus, Allen’s decision to stay back in college could be more wiser in terms of NIL benefits and better pay.

The 6-foot-5 Crimson Tide guard will participate in this week’s NBA Draft Combine in Chicago. He will be joined by fellow Alabama sophomore guard Labaron Philon.

    Amari Allen’s NBA Draft Projection

Amari Allen will have a tough decision to make as his first-round selection is not guaranteed. The draft board projects him to be more of a late-first or early-second round selection.

For example, James Fletcher III predicts Allen will be taken by the Memphis Grizzlies at No. 32 (top of the second round). On the other hand, ESPN’s Jeremy Woo and CBS Sports’ Cameron Salerno predict Allen going to the Boston Celtics at No. 27 overall. This is a first-round selection and Allen could easily earn north of $10 million.

It remains to be seen what Allen decides in the near future.
