Who Are Alex Karaban’s Parents? A Look Into the Family of UConn’s Star

Alex Karaban has been with the UConn Huskies since 2022. The 22-year-old forward has become a star player at the program, especially over the last two seasons. He has also won the NCAA Championship title twice with UConn.

Karaban will soon be in the NBA, and he is projected as a late first-round to mid-second-round pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. He possesses a high game IQ and one of the best three-point shooting abilities in college basketball today.

Outside of his on-court brilliance, Karaban has a strong support system behind him. Alexei and Olga Karaban are his parents. Alexi immigrated to the US from Belarus in 2001, while Olga, his mother, immigrated from Ukraine in 1996.

They raised their family in Massachusetts and always focused on the value of education. They saw the talent in Alex at a very early age and have supported him through everything that he has wanted to do.

Years of sacrifice and dedication have paid off now as Alex is not only one of the best basketball players in the history of UConn basketball, but he is also guaranteed to be in the NBA before the end of this year.

    Dan Hurley Praised Alex Karaban

The UConn Huskies registered another strong win today. They defeated the Seton Hall Pirates 71-67 at home, and Karaban had another brilliant outing. He dropped 23 points, shooting 8-11 from the field, 5-6 from the three-point line, with three rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks.

Karaban’s three-point shooting is his biggest asset, and by shooting over 83% from distance today, he proved that the hype is justified. The Huskies also celebrated their Senior Day today, and it turned out to be an emotional moment for the program.

After the game, head coach Dan Hurley sat down for the press conference and heaped praise on his star player.

“He’s robotic sometimes,” Hurley said. “He’s funny, he’s sarcastic, but you don’t really see a lot of emotion out of him, so to see him crying like a baby, coming out…I just lost it right there when I saw it.”

“He’s one of the greatest players that’s worn the uniform,” he said. “There’s players that have gone on from here and had careers in the NBA, and there’s a lot of them. But when they were in the uniform, who’s done more than this guy?”

Winning is all that matters in the end, and Hurley believes that Karaban has done everything to be considered one of the best in UConn history.
