Top Five Transfer Portal Landing Spots for UConn Guard Aidan Mahaney

    Stanford Cardinal

While the Cardinal replaced head coach Jerod Haase, who initially recruited Mahaney, under new coach Kyle Smith, the program has taken a step up, winning 21 games and making the second round of the 2025 NIT.

Now, with starting guard Oziyah Sellers hitting the portal and Jaylen Blakes finishing his eligibility, they have holes to fill in the backcourt. Mahaney could go back to the hometown team.

    Yale Bulldogs

Head coach James Jones and the Bulldogs showed serious interest in Mahaney out of high school, being one of the first teams to offer him a scholarship. Now, Mahaney could try and slot in and start for the Ivy League champions.

With starting guards John Poulakidas and Bez Mbeng running out of eligibility, there will be a lot of minutes to go around, and he wouldn’t have to leave Connecticut.

    San Francisco Dons

Head coach Chris Gerlufsen and the Dons offered Mahaney a scholarship, and now need to fill the void left by starter Marcus Williams, a spot he could immediately slot into. Another hometown option that could entice the guard.

    Arizona Wildcats

The Wildcats and head coach Tommy Lloyd offered Mahaney out of high school. If he’s still interested, Tucson could be the place for him. Caleb Love’s departure leaves a gaping hole for Arizona, but a competitive guard room would have him battling for minutes.

    Iowa Hawkeyes

The Hawkeyes lost a chunk of players to the portal following the dismissal of former coach Fran McCaffery, but the future now looks bright with ex-Drake head coach Ben McCollum at the helm.

The Hawkeyes, who lost guards Josh Dix and Brock Harding to the portal and Drew Thelwell to eligibility while gaining Drake’s Bennett Stirtz, will certainly be looking for more help in the frontcourt — currently only manning freshman Jacob Koch and junior Carter Kingsbury, neither of whom averaged even two points per game last year.
