Meleek Thomas was projected to be drafted as a late first-round or early second-round pick. As it turns out, the latter might happen. Arkansas guard wasn’t selected by any team in the first round.
After the first round ended, Arkansas’ official X account dropped three words, which fans speculated to be related to Thomas.
“Make them pay,” they posted.
Some fans were confused, while some backed Meleek Thomas.
“Meleek Thomas is the snub of the draft. He’s literally a top 15 talent in the draft, whoever gets him, gets a STEAL. Everyone is going to regret passing on him,” one fan claimed.
“What is that supposed to mean?” One fan shared a GIF.
“Leek and TB will definitely get picked tomorrow. No doubt,” one fan showed confidence.
“Knicks gonna pick up Maleek and Kings gonna get Brazile? (in my dreams, naturally),” one fan said.
“YOU should’ve payed to keep Leek,” one fan said mockingly.
“Why couldn’t YOU pay to keep Leek!!!” Another exclaimed.
After the Sacramento Kings selected Darius Acuff Jr as the No. 7 pick, Arkansas head coach John Calipari showed support for Meleek Thomas.
Calipari posted a picture with Thomas’ family and said, “Now it’s time for Meleek and his family to get the call!”
Meleek Thomas averaged 15.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists in his freshman season at Arkansas.
Darius Acuff Jr gets plaudits from Isaiah Thomas
Arkansas guard was one of the most talented players in this year’s NBA draft. Former Kings star Isaiah Thomas was very happy with the selection. He compared Darius to a young Stephon Marbury.
“He’s a winner, he’s a leader, them guys [Arkansas] followed him this year,” Thomas said about Acuff. “He’s my favorite player in the draft.”
Darius Acuff Jr averaged 23.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game last season. He won both the SEC Rookie of the Year as well as the SEC Player of the Year. He also won SEC Tournament MVP. His addition to the Kings’ roster would certainly elevate their basketball team.
