After leading the Michigan Wolverines to a win against the Arizona Wildcats in the Final Four, star Aday Mara has one final hurdle to clear before he can call himself a national champion. Mara & Co. will face the UConn Huskies in the NCAA Championship game on Monday.
Mara’s father, Javier, is excited for this game as he makes his way into the Lucas Oil Stadium, where the highly anticipated matchup will take place.
Ahead of the game, Javier dropped a photo from courtside, capturing Mara from behind and writing a pair of words:
“Game day”

Aday Mara is having an incredible NCAA Tournament with the Wolverines. In Michigan’s Final Four win over Arizona, Mara was a force to be reckoned with on the floor, as he put up 26 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks. For Michigan, the 7-foot-3 center protects the rim, dominates inside the paint and can make plays by posting up. In the regular season, he averaged around 11 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
Who is Aday Mara’s Father? Everything To Know About Javier Mara
Aday Mara’s father, Francisco Javier Mara, has played a major role in Michigan star taking up basketball.
Javier is from Zaragoza, Spain and is a former professional basketball player. He stands 6-foot-7 tall and has played for CB Zaragoza in the late 1980s (1986-1988), competing in Spain’s professional basketball system, including Liga ACB level appearances.
Javier’s wife, Angélica “Geli” Gómez, was a former Spanish national team volleyball player. With both of his parents being former professional athletes, Aday’s everyday routine included sports, discipline, and training.
Javier remains extremely supportive of his son’s basketball career. The parents specially traveled from Spain to attend the Final Four in person.
“Having them here is amazing because I can spend time with them now and if we win it all, I can celebrate with them,” Aday Mara told The Associated Press on Tuesday. “It’s special.”
After losing Vladislav Goldin and Danny Wolf, Michigan head coach Dusty May acquired former UCLA player Aday Mara through the transfer portal to fill the position of center. Mara’s presence near the rim has been a big reason behind Michigan’s deep March Madness run.
