ACC Champions Predicted as Hubert Davis’ May be Fuming at UNC Snub Days After Huge Win

Despite defeating Duke 71-68 at home, head coach Hubert Davis’ UNC didn’t get the nod in the ACC Championship prediction. The Blue Devils are 21-2 and are ranked No. 4 in the nation. Meanwhile, the North Carolina Tar Heels are 19-4 and are ranked No. 11 in the nation.

Duke sits atop the ACC standings with an 11-1 conference record. Clemson (10-1) and Virginia (10-2) are second and third, respectively. Meanwhile, UNC is fifth with a 7-4 record.

College basketball insider Gary Parrish doesn’t think that North Carolina is a contender for the ACC Championship. While Parrish acknowledged Duke’s loss against North Carolina, he doesn’t feel the Tar Heels will prove to be any challenge in the conference championship.

“I buy into them as a legitimate team to advance in the NCAA tournament,” Parrish said. “If things break the right way, could I see them in Indianapolis at the Final Four? Sure, but I don’t think they’re a real challenger to Duke in the ACC. They’ve already got three conference losses. A fourth could be on the way, and I just don’t think Duke is going to lose very often in that league.

“The Blue Devils lost one at the buzzer over the weekend, a tremendous game, but that’s not going to happen to them too often. Duke will be your ACC champion, and everybody else, including Carolina, will be playing for second.”

Hubert Davis may not be happy to learn this prediction.

Hubert Davis Felt “Numb” After Buzzer-Beater Against Duke

Duke were heavy favorite entering the game against North Carolina. However, the Tar Heels registered a stunning comeback victory with Seth Trimble hitting the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer.

“I’m still a little numb right now,” Hubert Davis said. “He’ll be remembered for the rest of his life in Carolina history. And I couldn’t think of a better person to have that with him.”

After the game, Davis expressed pride over his team, which continued to put up a fight against Duke despite trailing for most part of the game.

When North Carolina’s Trimble made that buzzer-beater with 0.4 seconds remaining, UNC fans stormed onto the court despite the game still remaining. Due to the lapse in security, the program was fined $50,000. Moreover, Davis has confirmed that he has talked with Duke coach Jon Scheyer regarding the same and stands by the comments made by the athletic director of North Carolina.
