Yann Kamagate is garnering a lot of attention despite having a few years left before beginning his collegiate journey. The projected 2028 five-star recruit stands at over seven feet, utilizing his height to make a name.
On Sunday, Overtime shared a clip of Yann Kamagate in action for Compton Magic at the Adidas 3SSB circuit. He showed off elite athleticism and talent both offensively and defensively.
Overtime praised Kamagate and went as far as to draw comparisons with elite NBA stars Victory Wembanyama and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
“2028 Yann Kamagate got Wemby’s length with Giannis’ athleticism. Only 16 years old too,” the caption read.
Kamagate is attracting major attention nationally. Through the first two sessions for Compton Magic, he’s averaging 13.9 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game.
The seven-foot-one player currently attends St. Francis High School.
Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks extend an offer to Yann Kamagate
Yann Kamagate’s recent performance also caught the eye of coach Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks. On Sunday, it was reported that they have extended an offer to the 2028 recruit, further shining the spotlight on him as a highly touted prospect from the AAU Circuit.
Bill Self has developed over 30 NBA prospects as a coach. He took over the Kansas Jayhawks back in 2003 and continues to help them emerge as a top program. He has won two national championships, with the most recent one coming during the 2021-22 season.
Last season, the Jayhawks qualified for March Madness. However, they were eliminated by the St. John’s Red Storm in the second round. Bill Self has put up a 634-167 overall record with the program.
Apart from Kansas, Yann Kamagate has also received offers from Indiana, BYU, Baylor, UCLA, Kansas, North Carolina, Texas A&M, Houston, Creighton, Nebaraska and USC. Will 11 Division I offers under his belt, it will be interesting to see where he decides to play during his collegiate career.
