The Notre Dame Fighting Irish, despite finishing their 2025 regular season with an overall record of 10-2, did not make it to the college football playoffs, a decision that caused a lot of uproar amongst fans and analysts alike.
However, the Irish ahead of the 2026 CFB season aren’t taking any chances and have reinforced their roster with the signing of former Ohio State five-star wide receiver Quincy Porter.
This decision prompted a lot of fans to comment on X, calling it a not-so-good decision for the wide receiver leaving the Buckeyes, whilst also trolling Notre Dame.
“Probably the worst possible move for him to get drafted, they wont make the playoffs again next year, and Freeman will probably do more dumb stuff, might even take an NFL job”, wrote a fan.
“He can quit with the rest of his team when they don’t make the bowl game they want next year”, stated a fan.
“ND loading up to go undefeated against AAC and MWC schools to get that free playoff spot and be firt round exits. Lol”, said a fan.
“He likely wants the easier schedule that Notre Dame provides. B1G is physical ball and not for everyone”, remarked a fan.
However, a lot of fans were also appreciative of Notre Dame’s newest recruit singing praises for the five star WR.
“Porter’s speed and talent are next-level”, commented a fan.
“Notre Dame just got faster”, wrote another fan.
“Bro, Notre Dame just locked in the rookie of the year”, remarked another fan.
The 2025 CFB season saw Porter with limited game time, posting a total of four catches for 59 yards.
Poyer Shares His Excitement After Committing to Notre Dame
After announcing his commitment to the Irish ahead of the 2026 CFB season, Porter, in a conversation with On3’s Steve Wiltfong, couldn’t hide his excitement as he gave insights on joining his new side ahead of the new campaign.
“Notre Dame is a great opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to playing for Notre Dame and have the opportunity to continue to develop,” Porter stated.
“I think the future is good and they have a great historic history and I want add to that”, he further elaborated.
While the official reason behind Porter leaving the 2024 national champions is still unclear, it could perhaps be attributed to the lack of game time he experienced with the likes of Carnell Tate and Jeremiah Smith ahead of him in the pecking order.
Having played only 4 games in his freshman year, Porter now has a total of 4 years of college football eligibility left.
