Days after the NCAA officially denied Trinidad Chambliss’ request for a sixth year of eligibility, Ole Miss has landed a new quarterback through the transfer portal. The Rebels added Auburn Tigers transfer quarterback Deuce Knight. He is a former five-star recruit.
Earlier, the Rebels were supporting Chambliss’ appeal to get an extra year of eligibility since the quarterback led Ole Miss to one of their deepest runs in a season in recent times. He led the team to an 11-1 regular season record and despite head coach Lane Kiffin leaving after the rivalry game against Mississippi State, he took the program into the College Football playoff semifinal, where they were defeated by the Miami Hurricanes.
On3’s Hayes Fawcett shared the latest development on X:
Under the above post, fans shared their lackluster reactions, suggesting they don’t consider the move noteworthy.
“Is Deuce Knight the next Trinidad Chambliss or better?” one fan asked.
“This doesn’t make any sense to me after watching that embarrassment of a playoff game,” one fan added.
“I basically consider the prediction the commitment at this point because I thought this was already done tbh,” one fan commented.
“Ole Miss is still a poverty program 😂” one fan reacted.
“Scratching my head on this one. Won’t he still be a backup at ole miss this year?” one fan asked.
Meanwhile, some fans showed excitement for Knight’s commitment.
“Good for Ole Miss! Keep the train rolling! They are gonna be a force again next year, just hoping they can solidify that coaching staff with all the exits to LSU,” one fan reacted.
“This guy was fun to watch… Ole Miss got a good one here!” another added.
Deuce Knight Might Replace Trinidad Chambliss at Ole Miss
While it’s not set in stone and a legal successful appeal for an NCAA waiver is still a possibility, Trinidad Chambliss’ time in college football is over. Without him, the Rebels were without a starter for the 2026 season. Thus, head coach Pete Golding & Co. acted fast and got a quarterback out of Auburn.
Knight appeared in two games in his freshman season with Auburn. He completed 17 of 25 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns. He started the game in the 62-17 win against Mercer. In that same game, he rushed for four touchdowns, while carrying the ball 178 yards on just 13 carries.
Coming out of high school, Knight was ranked No. 25 overall and fifth among quarterbacks in his class. Knight is expected to lead the Rebels in the 2026 season.
