On Monday, February 9, Tiger Woods’ TGL witnessed history, as Neil Shipley made the league’s first-ever hole-in-one. The 25-year-old golfer made his debut for Bay Golf Club special by making history against the Los Angeles Golf Club.
The eighth match of the tech-infused league was between The Bay Golf Club and the Los Angeles Golf Club. The match was quite one-sided for the Bay Golf Club, but the highlight of the day was Shipley’s ace.
Bay GC entered the par-3, fifth hole of 110 yards with a 3-0 lead, and Shipley took the first shot for the team at No. 14. His team didn’t require another hit, as the ball went straight away and went to the pin after a few bounces on the green. Following the ace, the atmosphere at the SoFi Center turned wild as Luke Clanton and Min Woo Lee jumped to celebrate with Shipley.
During the post-round interview, Neal Shipley reflected on his hole-in-one.
“I hit that shot in practice a bunch and I think I missed the green five or six times in a row, so I think the boys were a little nervous about it, and I was, too.” he said. “We aimed a little right of the pin and I tugged it a hair but right on top of it, and it went in, and it was pandemonium after that. Just went crazy.”
Shipley’s teammate Luke Clanton also hailed the 25-year-old about his performance.
“It was just cool,” Clanton said. “The whole experience of being out there and being in front of all those people in a stadium like this, I’ve never done it, so it’s so cool to be there, and to see Neal jumping there after the hole-in-one and me there with him, it’s cool. We were always playing against each other and all that, and to be able to root for each other was really cool.
