After Brendan Sorsby and the Texas Tech Red Raiders received the good news that their star quarterback had been granted a temporary injunction, allowing him to play in the 2026 college football season, many fans and analysts were upset about how it would affect the integrity of the game.
Sorsby was banned from playing in the upcoming season after the news of his gambling addiction made the headlines, especially because he was allegedly placing bets on his own team at the time, Indiana, which is a massive infraction of NCAA rules.
While most analysts expressed their frustration with the decision to let Sorsby play, Pittsburgh Steelers Aaron Rodgers’ brother Jordan spoke about the upside of the situation and said:
“Yeah, it’s a dark day. It was embarrassing for the sport, but it will be the best thing that has ever happened for college football because this is going to be the line of demarcation for what was college football for the last five or six years. It’s kind of like the Wild West, right, with NIL, with tampering, with the transfer portal, with eligibility. Guys suing to get extra years. This era is going to be marked by an asterisk, and this is going to be the point we move forward. It’s not going to happen right away, but structure and change will happen because it happened, and this is important, because it happened with probably the most talented player in the transfer portal at a school that can compete for a college football playoff spot and a national championship next year.”
Paul Finebaum’s Blunt Thoughts On Brendan Sorsby Getting Eligibility For 2026 College Football Season
During his recent take on ESPN’s Get Up, Paul Finebaum shared his unfiltered thoughts on Brendan Sorsby’s eligibility to now play in the 2026 college football season.
Finebaum called the decision one of the worst rulings in college sports, as it undermines the integrity of the game.
“College sports went to Defcon 1 yesterday, and that’s rare because the sport has gone so low in so many different circumstances, but everyone but Texas Tech officials were in unanimous agreement that this is one of the worst rulings because it… Forget whether college players get paid and all the things that go along with it; this is about the integrity of what happens on a Saturday afternoon,” Finebaum said.
Finebaum also sarcastically added that what happened to Sorsby is a great example for America’s youth.
