Georgia Tech coach Brent Key led the program to a 9-4 record in the 2025 season. It was Key’s best finish with the Yellow Jackets since he took over as the team’s permanent coach in November 2023.
With Georgia Tech showing signs of improvement and on its way to becoming a potential powerhouse, Key has made some impressive recruitments via the transfer portal. Here’s a look at some of the best players who have joined the Yellow Jackets this month.
Top 5 players who joined Brent Key’s Georgia Tech
#1. Jaylen Mbakwe, CB/WR
Mbakwe transferred to Georgia Tech earlier this month after having spent two years at Alabama. In the 2024 season, he operated as a cornerback, tallying 15 tackles, a tackle for loss, two pass breakups and an interception across 12 games. For the 2025 season, Mbakwe played as a wideout, posting three catches for 55 total yards. Since Mbakwe can be used as a two-way player, he could be a great asset for the Yellow Jackets.
#2. Alberto Mendoza, QB
Mendoza signed with Georgia Tech this week after spending two seasons at Indiana. The QB is the younger brother of Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza. While there are high expectations of Mendoza, it will be interesting to see how Brent Key integrates the quarterback into his offense for next season.
#3. Gavin Harris, TE
Harris transferred to Georgia Tech this month to play for his fourth different team at the collegiate level. The tight end began his career at Howard in 2023, before transferring to Central Michigan for the 2024 season. In the 2025 season, Harris posted 531 yards and a touchdown on 37 receptions. The TE has the experience of playing regular football, and he might have an important role as a senior for the Yellow Jackets next season.
#4. Isaiah Fuhrmann, WR
Fuhrmann transferred to Georgia Tech after spending the past two years at Elon. The wideout had a stellar 2025 season, posting 907 yards and nine touchdowns on 46 catches. Fuhrmann will be aiming to build on his breakout year when he dons the colors for the Yellow Jackets next season.
#5. Jaiven Plummer, WR
Plummer transferred to Georgia Tech this month after a two-year stint at Cal. The wideout struggled to make an impact for the Golden Bears, but a change in scenery could do well for the player. Moreover, Plummer can also operate as a defensive back, and his versatility might come in handy for the Key’s Yellow Jackets.
