Former FSU QB Brushes Off Texas Tech’s Brendan Sorsby “Campaign” With Blunt Message

Brendan Sorsby has seen plenty of criticism over his gambling controversy and his attempts to minimize or avoid punishments levied by the NCAA. However, he hasn’t been alone in his fight, as Texas Tech has been fighting alongside him for the right to get back to college football.

In response to the criticism, Texas Tech released a 21-minute roundtable video on social media to address the situation. The video was an effort to turn the tide and serve as damage control. However, one former FSU quarterback didn’t buy it. Former FSU quarterback Danny Kanell labeled the video as one part of the “worst PR campaign ever.”

“Worst PR campaign ever continues….” he posted.

The video showed Texas Tech leadership defending Sorsby after admitting that he had done something wrong. However, the program also said that he was working to get better and should not be given harsh punishment.

“I think everyone should realize that, first and foremost, our decisions in this matter have been guided by a conviction we have at Texas Tech, and that is ‘we stand by, and we support our students,'” President Schovanec said.

“Now, Brendan made a mistake. We acknowledge that, and mistakes have consequences. At the same time, this is a man with a dream and a vision to pursue a career, and we felt that not to have that opportunity to pursue that career, given the circumstances and the evolving changes in the world that these athletes face, is unfair and unjust.”

College Football Fans React To Texas Tech Roundtable

Fans reacted to the video in droves, splitting into two camps. Some were negative, while others were positive. Here’s a look at the positive responses.

“So proud to be an Alumni of this University. This moment is bigger than a QB throwing a football. We have the opportunity to provide wraparound care to a young man who made mistakes and are the best positioned to assist his journey towards recovery. Love Texas Tech! Wreck ‘Em!” one posted.

“I am and continue to be PROUD of Texas Tech and what they are doing. 👆WreckEm,” another posted.

“Man – that’s leadership, I love my university and appreciate them being transparent. Tech is top notch and backs their students. GUNS UP,” one added.

While some fans were positive, many fans criticized the video.

“This is pure garbage. … Just admit you have no ethics,” one posted.

“So embarrassing If they actually felt good or right about this, no video would be necessary,” another added.

“This is one of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever seen come out of a football program…..and just 8 months ago I watched my coach attack his mistress with butter knives,” one replied.

If Texas Tech’s goal was to change everyone’s opinion on the Brendan Sorsby controversy, most would agree that more work is needed. Of course, with the season on the horizon and time in finite supply, the question is whether the program can win over those who control Sorsby’s fate. Will the quarterback play another down in college football?
