The Texas Tech star, Brendan Sorsby, was banned from playing in the 2026 college football season by the NCAA after reports of his gambling problems surfaced on the internet, especially the fact that he allegedly made bets on Indiana games while he was with the program.
Sorsby sued the NCAA and demanded his eligibility back, which worked out for him when the judge ruled in his favor, leaving many fans and analysts upset about the situation.
While some analysts called it an “asterisk” of a moment for college sports, others called it disgusting.
Josh Pate, a popular college football analyst, also shared his thoughts and ripped the NCAA in his latest clip.
“The NCAA, that’s four letters. That’s nothing more. That’s not an enforcement body. That’s not a governing body. It used to be, and truthfully, I don’t ever know that it had the teeth we thought it did. It just barked really loudly for a long time, so schools were scared and got in line. They were complicit, and how foolish do you feel today, by the way, if at any point in your recent history as a player, a coach, or an institution, you self-reported violations, or you admitted to violations, or you just accepted NCAA sanctions. How foolish must you feel? When you have a kid who quite literally bet on the games he participated in and has now been ruled eligible. This judge looks me in the eye. This judge just told you with a straight face, on one hand, yes, he bet on the game. He violated the cardinal sin, the one gigantic no-no in sports.” Pate said.
Analyst Shares Thoughts on Texas Tech Painting a Target on Their Back Because of Brendan Sorsby
Many conferences are speaking out on potentially boycotting Texas Tech in the 2026 college football season because of Sorsby’s gambling story.
On Thursday, Andy Staples and Ross Dellenger discussed what it means for Joey McGuire’s team in terms of competition.
Dellenger pointed out that the Red Raiders have painted a target on their back and pointed out that while it’s understandable that Sorsby had an addiction problem, by coming back to play for another season, he is making things worse.
“I know he wants to play this last year; he’s promised a lot of money. I get it.” Dellenger added.
Dellenger also highlighted that Sorsby would have to go to Cincinnati, one of his former schools, on 24th October 2026.
