President Donald Trump arranged a special round table of big names in the world of college sports to discuss things that are allegedly wrong in the current scenario and potentially come up with solutions.
The panel included names like Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Pete Bevacqua, Charlie Baker and more.
Trump spoke about how NIL and rising football costs are harming the sport and shared that it may require a legislation or an executive order soon.
The president highlighted that the massive amounts of money that the big schools are spending is astounding and is bound to only get worse.
Fans weren’t impressed by Donald Trump’s intervention and took to the comments section to express their thoughts.
“Keep this man away from college football tell nick saban old ahh stop hating to . Let them kids get paid,” one fan reacted.
”NIL gives players—most of whom will never go pro—a chance to earn, support their families, and learn business while their value is highest. For decades the system profited off them while they got nothing.Once again, choosing corporations over the little guys,” another fan wrote.
“Mhm them boys out there changing statistics increasing the black dollar and they can’t stand it. They’ve been secretly doing it under the table for the advantage for decades Now all the sudden it’s a problem?” another fan questioned.
More similar comments followed.
”NIL isn’t hurting college football – lack of regulation, and the insanity of the transfer portal are.And not being able to enforce eligibility rules,” another fan highlighted.
”Stay in your lane buddy. Stop destroying everything,” another fan added.
”Its was fine when they exploited athletes for billions in profit tho. That was fine,” another fan pointed out.
Nick Saban’s Spoke About Enhancing College-Athlete’s Future Amid Rise of NIL
Nick Saban, who won seven national championship titles during his head coaching career, spoke at the White House roundtable about the current state of college sports and offered his two cents on how it can be fixed.
The ex-Alabama head coach said that he believes there is a need to come up with a system, in ways of “antitrust legislation or whatever” in order to allow student-athletes to enhance the quality of their life while going to college but still being able to advance themselves beyond their athletic career.
“And how much does anybody talk about getting an education anymore? Nobody talks about it at all, which is the most important thing that any of these student-athletes can do as far as enhancing their future,” Saban said.
Saban shared that his goal as a coach in his career was to create an environment that helps the players through personal development and academic support while also helping them excel at their athletic career.
