Four-star wide receiver Jamir Dean announced Monday that he is flipping his commitment from Penn State to Georgia, giving Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs another significant addition to their 2027 recruiting class. Dean committed to the Nittany Lions on May 1 and, just days after, decided to flip his commitment to Georgia.
The Bulldogs also recently flipped four-star prospect Kennedee Jackson from Florida. As a result, Georgia has climbed in the national recruiting rankings to 13th spot from 17th last week as per On3.
While Georgia fans celebrated the win, many reactions online centered around the trend of prospects changing commitments just before signing day.
“This is the fourth PSU player in a week to flip. Please find the problem,” one user wrote.
Others questioned whether verbal commitments carry any value in the current landscape.
“The word ‘commitment’ has truly lost its meaning,” one fan posted.
“And then in a month, he’ll probably flip to someone else. These commitments don’t mean anything until they sign the paperwork,” another wrote.
“Kirby Smart is about to go on a run BANGGGG!!” one Bulldogs supporter wrote.
“This is getting insane. Next years portal is gonna be wild,” one wrote.
“Georgia keeps stacking talent 👀🐶,” another wrote.
Jamir Dean Commitment Boosts Georgia’s Offense
Dean was one of the more intriguing offensive prospects in the Southeast.
Last season, he got 53 receptions for 1,141 yards and 16 touchdowns. Beyond football, he has also excelled in basketball and track, showcasing the athletic versatility that has made him a sought-after target for Power Four programs.
Georgia wide receivers coach James Coley played a major role in the recruitment after the Bulldogs extended an offer shortly after Dean’s Penn State commitment.
“It’s Georgia, man. You can’t really pass up on Georgia. They’ve been good since Kirby [Smart] got there. It’s been consistent with them. They’ve been a top team. They’ve won two national championships. They’re always fighting to go to a national championship and win it,” Dean told DawgsHQ.
His commitment gives Georgia another dynamic pass catcher and a major boost to strengthen the roster to make a deep run in 2027 March Madness.
Whether more flips are on the horizon remains to be seen. But for now, Georgia has added another highly regarded prospect to its 2027 class, while Penn State is left searching for answers after another recruit slipped away.
