Multiple parties involved in the cancellation of the Tennessee Volunteers and Nebraska Cornhuskers series, scheduled to start in 2026, took to X to voice their anger on the situation while many chimed in, offering solutions.

Fans’ Anger Boils Over Tennessee-Nebraska Cancellation
Danny White, the athletics director for the Volunteers, posted about the series.
Correction: Tennessee is not canceling this series. Nebraska did. We are very disappointed that they didn’t want to play these games, especially this close to 2026. https://t.co/uSz7kAXk94

Big Orange Kingpin responded to the news from White.
DO NOT take this opportunity to schedule another G5 team, give the fans a premier matchup

The Group of Five conference teams, such as Boise State and Tulane, who played well last year, don’t have the same prestige and level of play as the Power Four conference teams — such as the Alabama Crimson Tide, Michigan Wolverines, or the Auburn Tigers — do. A Nebraska-Tennessee matchup does the same.
The Kentucky Network responded to White’s clarification, saying that they should “play us twice a year.”
The tweet refers to the fact that the Kentucky Wildcats and Volunteers have a long football history dating back to 1893.
The two teams’ most recent matchup was on Nov. 2, 2024, when Tennessee defeated Kentucky 28-18 at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville. The two schools are scheduled to play on Oct. 25, 2025.
Another user posted, “Danny, Please schedule a formidable opponent to replace them. Was looking forward to making the trip to Nebraska. Will probably never step foot in that state now.”

Skiers News, an account dedicated to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, said, “Common Danny Boy. Lets tell the whole story. Tennessee was the ones who originally canceled back in 16/17. Nebraska agreed to reschedule. Now you don’t want to do the same for Nebraska. Nebraska never asked to cancel completely. They simply wanted to reschedule. You said no.”
The Vol Goon chimed in: “Let’s go for USC, Washington, Notre Dame or Penn State.”
At the moment no replacement games have been scheduled.
