Clemson Tigers star Peter Woods has spent enormously more than what he could afford, maybe after being picked in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. The defensive tackle has become the talking point following his lavish purchases, even though he is just going to earn $2.4 million in 2026 after taxes.
The 29th overall pick has reportedly purchased multiple Maserati SUVs for his mother and sister last night following his selection in the 2026 NFL draft. The total expenditure is over $200K.
Fans believe that Woods is not making the smart choices financially at the onset of money. In the NFL, especially for defensive tackles, a career can be really short-lived and is just a rough hit away from ending it all.
“and this is why pro sports players go broke,” one fan wrote.
“Probably from money he made in college because he doesn’t have any of his nfl money yet,” one fan remarked.
“Financial coaching should be mandatory for any potential draft pick,” one fan commented.
“Welp this certainly is not how wealthy people act. This is a purchase you dont make but if you do make it its after you have 20-50 million in the bank and making interest off that money. How pro athletes go broke 101. Its sad that he feels he has to do that for so called blood,” one fan reacted.
“lol these cars are 70-80k each and it’s being called a dream car. It’s a very poor choice financially. They will be worth $45k In 3-4 years,” one fan added.
“He will be broke BEFORE his contract runs out. He hasn’t even started to spend money on himself yet. Who is his agent? He can’t get better advice than this?” one fan asked.
Peter Woods Could End All Worries For Kansas City
The biggest problem Kansas City faced last season was its 29th-ranked third-down conversion rate in the NFL. Peter Woods could be the answer to the problem.
Combined with Chris Jones on the field, it could be a nightmare for the opposing offensive line, feels analyst Daniel Jeremiah.
“He’s never going to see a double-team, so long as Chris Jones is out there on the field,” Jeremiah said. “The quickness is what you’re buying here… He’s got tons of range. The pass rush, the ability to get up the field—that’s what you’re buying.”
With Woods in the lineup, the Chiefs’ defense would be boosted massively heading into the 2026 season.
