It has been a difficult time for former NFL star Tim Tebow, who announced on social media that his father, Robert Ramsey Tebow II, had died.
Tributes have since been pouring in, and one such tribute came from new LSU head coach Lane Kiffin.
Kiffin clearly enjoyed some sort of relationship with Tebow’s father, as his words suggest that he truly enjoyed the time he spent with Tebow Sr., using the moment to tweet out his appreciation for everything Robert stood for.
Kiffin and Tim Tebow go back a long way, when the latter was in college, and the LSU HC did everything in his power to recruit him.
“We pull up to the farm that they live on, and there was a Florida Gator mailbox. He used to walk in, and there is a Florida Gator mat right there, and he (former USC head coach Pete Caroll) turns to me, and he’s like, why are you wasting my time right now,” Kiffin once said about the hilarious attempt to sign Tebow.
Tebow Spoke About Kiffin’s Ole Miss Tenure Recently
The relationship has seen ups and downs since, with Tebow commenting on Kiffin’s absence at Ole Miss recently and praising his ability to recruit QBs.
“First of all, I think Lane Kiffin is a really good coach,” Tebow said. “I think his ability to recruit quarterbacks, develop them, he’s amazing. But for Ole Miss right now, you have to believe that who you have and what you’ve done is enough. You don’t have to be different. Both of your play callers are back, Charlie Weis Jr, Pete Golding, they’re back.”
“Trinidad Chambliss, Kewan Lacey, two of the best in their position, their receiving core, their defense has been really good at times. You have to believe ‘we don’t have to be different who we are and what we have.’ It is enough,” he added.
