After winning eligibility, Texas Tech Red Raiders QB Brendan Sorsby surprised everyone when he decided to declare for the NFL Supplemental Draft 2026, which is expected to take place later this summer. With his gambling problems now out in public, Sorsby will leave the Red Raiders to go pro, taking his controversy to the NFL and saving Texas Tech some headaches.
With Sorsby now entering the NFL, many analysts believe he could turn pro, including NFL draft analyst Field Yates, who believes the controversial quarterback has what it takes to make the league, but also acknowledged the baggage the QB’s gambling addiction is bringing.
“Make no mistake about it. Each NFL teams gonna have a different evaluation of how much this gambling scandal that has led to all of this,” he said.
“From a talent standpoint, make no mistake about it. If Brendan Sorsby played well in 2026. He was gonna go in the first round of 2027. This guy’s legit. He had a chance to go maybe in the top ten picks if things broke, really right. During his time at Texas Tech, this guy’s got good size, very good athlete, a sick runner, 18 rushing touchdowns over the past two seasons. He is a gamer. He’s got serious moxie. His second reaction skills are all legit. This guy’s got the goods to play in the NFL.”
With him entering the supplemental draft, Brendan Sorsby will indeed be the most controversial one there. Whichever team decides to draft him will be the one bearing the brunt of his controversy and will need to make sure he stays on the straight and narrow.
Yates also predicted that several teams might show interest, such as the New York Jets, which are looking for a backup, the Cleveland Browns, which are always looking for a QB, and the Arizona Cardinals, which may already have Carson Beck as a backup but may try to double-dip.
NFL Chooses Not To Comment On Brendan Sorsby’s Supplemental Draft Entry
As for how the NFL reacted to Brendan Sorsby’s controversial decision to enter the supplemental draft, the league has so far declined to comment on the matter. Reports indicate that teams are showing interest, especially with his abilities, though the concerns about his gambling habits linger.
For now, Sorsby and Texas Tech are facing legal battles regarding his eligibility, especially with his gambling addiction now public knowledge. His future remains uncertain for now, even if the NFL supplemental draft does push through.
