Colorado quarterback Domoniq Ponder died in a single fatal car accident last month in Boulder County, Colorado.
According to Colorado State Patrol, Ponder lost control on a curve, causing his Tesla to swerve across the eastbound lane, striking a guard rail and electrical line pole, before rolling down an embankment and being set on fire.
This morning, more details emerges about Ponder’s accident. According to TMZ, Ponder was over the legal alcholo limit during the time of the crash. According to records. his BAC content was recorded at .167 g/100 mL, over the legal limit of 0.08 in the state of Colorado.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ponder was on Bethune-Cookman’s roster for the 2023 and the Colorado Buffaloes for the 2025 season. He’s completed 2-of-9 passes for 33 yards and has thrown two interceptions in his career.

It’s a tragedy what happened to Domoniq Ponder, and his mother Catrina Huges hopes a lesson can be learned from the action.
Hughes gave a powerful statement to USA Today Sports, and hopes conversations can be had about responsible driving.
Here’s some of what Hughes told USA Today:
“If anything good can from this loss, it’s the conversations it can start about responsible decision-making, supporting young adults, and making food choices even in ordinary moments…. Kids need to know it’s OK to step in, take keys, call a ride, call a parent, do anything you can do, one small decision can save a life.”
A GoFundme fundraiser has started in memory of Ponder, called, “The Domoniq Ponder 722 Foundation.” The fundraiser has a goal of $5,000 and funds will be raised to support scholarships for student athletes.
