Ty Simpson has been among the most talked-about players in the 2026 NFL Draft class. While analysts like Dan Orlovsky believe that he is the best quarterback this year, others feel there might be a possibility that the Alabama star ends up sliding out of the first round.
ESPN analysts highlighted that a similar conversation surrounded Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft, where fans thought a team might take him in the first round, but he was the 144th pick in the fifth round.
During Friday’s episode of the show, “Get Up,” Ex-Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum shared his “dream” scenario for Simpson, saying:
“So Jets take a pass rusher, let’s say at two, at 16. Let’s say they take a corner or receiver. If the Jets ran a similar play and let’s say took 33 and 44, their two second-round picks, Greeny and let’s say went to Chicago at 25 and took Ty Simpson, who can now sit for a year behind Geno Smith. Now you have five years, you have that critical fifth-year option.
One of the concerns about Ty Simpson, Greeny, is he only played 15 games. So imagine if you’re the New York Jets and you get a pass rusher, let’s say a corner, Ty Simpson, and now you still have three first-round picks next year. I think that’s a dream scenario for Ty Simpson, who could sit and the New York Jets,” he added.
NFL Analyst Weighs In on Why Ty Simpson Is a Polarizing Prospect
Ty Simpson has been one of the most polarizing quarterbacks of the 2026 draft class. While many analysts believe he is a talented prospect, others worry about the amount of experience he possesses, with just 15 starts under his belt in his college career.
Chase Daniel, an NFL analyst, has weighed in on why Simpson has been a polarizing prospect this year and said that when he talks to people in the league, they appreciate the former Alabama star’s mechanics, highlighting his Pro Day’s excellence.
Daniel pointed out that while he believed a quarterback in the league should have more than 15 starts in his college career, the quality of the starts he got at the beginning of the year may be enough.
”He’s probably gonna win a Heisman,” Daniel said.
The analyst concluded by saying that the confusing part about Simpson is what happened after the first 8-9 games, when his performance dropped dramatically.
