Deion Sanders is heading for a big-time change in Colorado. His defensive coordinator, Robert Livingston, is departing for the NFL. Livingston was hired away by the local NFL franchise, the Denver Broncos, to serve as the team’s new defensive passing-game coordinator, replacing Jim Leonhard.
According to a Wednesday 9News report, the change in team will result in a change of only 40 miles for Livingston. The Denver Broncos’ choice to hire Livingston left Sanders with a need for a replacement, but he didn’t bother looking 40 miles for his next defensive coordinator. He eventually settled on an in-house candidate.
Who is Replacing Robert Livingston?
Chris Marve will replace Robert Livingston as Colorado’s new defensive coordinator, per “Thee Pregame Show” via Buffaloes Wire. Marve was already on staff as a linebackers coach and now will serve as the defensive coordinator for the Buffaloes.
Marve was originally hired as a linebackers coach this offseason, but received a promotion without a single game under his belt with the program.
Chris Marve’s Coaching History
Chris Marve’s addition to the Colorado Buffaloes wasn’t the first time he was added to a coaching staff. Most recently, Marve worked for Virginia Tech as a defensive coordinator and linebackers coach from 2022 through 2024.
Linebackers have been Marve’s specialty, as he has worked with the unit in four different capacities in his coaching career, including spending time with Florida State, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt.
Marve has worked as an outside linebackers coach, an inside linebackers coach, and as a defensive run game coordinator with multiple programs.
Marve got his start as a defensive quality control coach in 2014. Defensive quality control coaches often work as office support for the coaches, handling the details that higher-up coaches don’t have time for.
Marve played for Vanderbilt, logging time on the field from 2008 through 2011. The coach played in the Liberty Bowl in 2011 and the Music City Bowl in 2008.
