Carnell Tate NFL Draft: Insider Names $6.2Bn Franchise As ‘Sneaky Fit’ For OSU WR

The NFL Scouting Combine will take place next week, and several college football players like Carnell Tate are going to be at the forefront. The scouting combine will set the stage for the NFL Draft and kick off a new season.

Tate, who played for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2023 to 2025, is one of the top wide receivers in the country. He won the CFP National Championship with the Buckeyes in 2024 and had his best season with Ohio State in 2025.

He had 51 receptions for 875 yards, averaging 17.2 yards per reception, and had nine touchdowns. Tate made significant improvements in his game as compared to the 2024 season, and the stats showcase it.

Several NFL teams are being considered top contenders to draft Tate this year. As per Jesse Newell, a $6.2 billion franchise has become the frontrunner in this race. Newell, the beat reporter for the Kansas City Chiefs, recently posted his thoughts.

“A sneaky need for the Chiefs is at receiver, where they have only two players under contract beyond 2026 (Xavier Worthy and Jalen Royals). This draft fell in a positive way, then, with Tate the first receiver off the board. He’s a good team fit, as well,” Newell wrote.

“The Chiefs typically target run-after-catch guys, but too often last year, they were in need of an outside receiver who could create route separation and be a contested-catch option. Tate — he most often draws George Pickens comps from draft analysts — would be a welcome addition for new receivers coach Chad O’Shea, while also giving Patrick Mahomes a QB-friendly option for years to come,” Newell explained.

The Chiefs had a disastrous run last season and failed to make the playoffs, marking the end of their dynasty. Adding Tate to their roster would be a good decision, especially when they are in dire need of a change in approach.

    Carnell Tate’s Strengths and Weaknesses

The Chiefs would’ve closely monitored Tate’s progress over the years at Ohio State. He has made a giant leap in his game development. Still, with his set of strengths, he has some weaknesses as well.

Tate isn’t considered a creative player in space, and it has negatively impacted his game. It’s not something that he wouldn’t be able to overcome with proper training and guidance, but the Chiefs will be cautious with their decision.

His strengths outweigh his weaknesses. He has great football IQ, speed, the ability to adapt to situations on the field, and much more. These qualities make him a suitable fit for the Kansas City Chiefs.
