One of the most hyped players for this year’s NFL draft would certainly be outgoing Utah Utes offensive tackle Caleb Lomu. He was a redshirt sophomore but is now eligible and ready to be drafted into the NFL after an impressive NFL combine.
NFL.com projects him to go in the first round after clocking 4.99 seconds in the 40-yard dash, 1.74 seconds in the 10-yard split, 32.4 inches in the vertical jump and 9-foot-5 in the broad jump.
Right now, many teams need a protector such as him, but the question is, where should he go. His earliest projection could be around No. 11, but he could also go as late as No. 30. Either way, he might still be a first round pick as he is pretty impressive.
Teams Where OT Caleb Lomu Could Land
Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins are in need of a good offensive tackle, and their earliest pick they might use it on could be the No. 11 pick, and they might go with Caleb Lomu. Playing mostly left tackle for the Utes, he has been a standout pass-blocker and has also been impressive in dealing with pass rushers, something Miami needs at the moment.
Should they use their 11th pick on somebody else, the Dolphins might also use their No. 30 pick if he is still available.
San Francisco 49ers
The Niners are seen as the best fit for Caleb Lomu, as he could be a good OT to pair with Brock Purdy on the left side. He also shines in zone-blocking styles, which San Francisco is also known to run.
However, the team’s success last season might mean that other teams could get to them before them. Should Lomu still be available around the No. 27 or No. 29 picks, he might end up in the team where he could actually shine.
Cleveland Browns
Whoever the Cleveland Browns QB1 for next season will be, the team still has to protect him, and a team known for its defensive prowess could be where Caleb Lomu could also shine. He is projected by several outlets to go to Cleveland, and the Browns might use their No. 24 pick on him, but not their earlier picks.
